'Game' is the fourth and final song to be unveiled from Jonathan Bree's forthcoming album Don’t Call It Love before its release on August 27. The song is the first of the album’s advance singles not to feature a guest vocalist and adds another deliciously dark dimension to Don’t Call It Love’s extraordinary musical palette.
Built around a hypnotic, repetitive bass riff, the song unfolds as a slow-burning piece that draws the listener into a meditative state. Inspired by the motorik rhythms and understated intensity of krautrock pioneers such as CAN, Game embraces restraint, with a locked-in rhythm section and relaxed vocal delivery allowing the mechanical groove to take centre stage.
The dance routine in the 'Game' music video was created/performed longtime collaborator and choreographer Rebecca Stitt, who has created synchronised dance that’s equal parts chorus line and Blade Runner robo-rotica. It’s a somewhat voyeuristic but stylish affair, with her many selves serving as the viewer’s private dancer(s).
