Jonathan Bree - 'Part-Time Lover' with Princess Chelsea

Jonathan Bree's new single 'Part-Time Lover' is a pulsing, decadent duet with Princess Chelsea. Written from the perspective of illicit lovers engaged in a “rendezvous in dead dark streets”, searching for “transcendency from another”, the song dabbles in the sensual side of melancholy (showcasing Bree’s ice-cool drawl) before the tone shifts to something almost hopeful, with the deceptive sweetness of Princess Chelsea’s voice providing a perfect balance.

A slow-burning beat sets the tempo before a delayed guitar arrives, reminiscent of early New Order and The Cure. A simple but memorable bass line strings us along to the chorus, before opening up into an optimistic crescendo. The music video also shows some lusciously dark eighties influences and was directed by Bree himself, alongside longtime collaborator Princess Chelsea and Nicole Pollard (who also styled and costume-designed the clip).

The song fits perfectly in the context of Jonathan’s forthcoming opus Don’t Call It Love (out August 27) with the recurring themes of sordid romance, secrets and desire all at play. It will be Jonathan Bree's sixth studio album and is an erotic concept driven work exploring sexuality and featuring collaborations with women across music, film, photography, and dance.
